Installing GTi instrument cluster into a 1992 junior 1.1i

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

new to the forum so I hope I’ve posted in the right place. I’ve put a GTI instrument cluster into my 1993 junior 1.1i. I’ve got everything to work that should except the rev counter. Can anyone point me in the right direction with wiring diagrams. Where does it get the signal from on my engine? It isn’t a dizzy. Is it through the ECU? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

You have the same tach problem, and solutions, that people converting to Motronic :

Actually , he doesn't need signal converter (from 12v to 5v) , needs just connecting the rev counter on a GTI type cluster to the coil ie. pull signal from the coil to make it work .

It's wire 112 which is signal for the rev counter , goes on the coil , if there isn't one - add one .

Also 12v and ground , so 3 wires in total on the blue 3pin plug at the back of the tachometer , and it'll work .

I did full GTI cluster installation also on base model with TU engine , but it's been a while since then .. there was an good pin-out description of all the individual wires on both the GTI and base model cluster on an French 205 forum , pretty much all the gauges and warning lights can be made to work when installing GTI cluster in base model though some wires and senders are missing and need to be added .

There's some info with regards to cluster wiring here :

He said he doesen't have a dizzy, later TU1M are running wasted spark ignition with a coil pack.

He can still uses pulses from the coils to drive the tach with a few extra components.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the tu1/m wasted spark ignition wiring? Or does anyone know which wire is negatives as they are all reading 12v. Thanks

No TU1M diagram but it should be similar to the XU5M diagram ;
