ArthurH 6 Posted February 3 Each time we take the gearbox out we have another go at fixing the perpetual weeping from the input shaft nose seal. We have tried different nose styles, both cast and sheet metal; they all seem to weep. Are we missing trick? Do other peeps suffer? Is it possible to do something tactical with RTV? PhilNW 43 Posted February 4 (edited) Is it the rubber seal or the nose to casing gasket? Preload shimmed? Edited February 4 by PhilNW
ArthurH 6 Posted February 4 Thanks guys. The gearbox is lovely and quiet and seems to perform perfectly, so didn't really want to change anything, but I will check the preload again.. As far as I can tell, it is the rubber seal that is weeping
PhilNW 43 Posted February 4 If the gearbox feels good are there any other issues with the box that justifies gearbox removal. What is the source of the rubber seals?
ArthurH 6 Posted February 4 The engine (and box) is currently out for a new set of shells and a general refresh for the forthcoming season. TBH I can't remember where I sourced the last nose seal. Are there any particular brands to go for (or avoid)?
PhilNW 43 Posted February 4 (edited) No particular brands , get mine from my local supplier of bearing and seals - Simply Bearings of Leigh 26x36x7mm Nitrile Rubber Rotary Shaft Oil Seal with Garter Spring R23 / TC is what I have used without problems.
