Electrical connectors, crimps & tools

Knowing little about the electrical side of things I thought I'd ask for some advice before starting my next project. I've been researching about the best way to join wires, types of connectors/crimps etc.

I've done little bits here and there previously using insulated heatshrink butt connectors but they are quite bulky.

I'm planning doing a loom conversion so looking into neater solutions, what's everyone's preferred way?

Non insulated butt connectors with adhesive lined heatshrink looks quite tidy?

Also have any of you got a brand preference for crimps & types of crimping pliers?

Any other pointers feel free to share

Cheers :D

Have a look at Polevolt and Vehicle Wiring Products websites for ideas of what is available.

Crimpers tbh are a nightmare, I've a number of different ones, all of which do certain crimps OK but not others.
