Rear beam creaking and loud knock

Recommended Posts

Ren89

I have a 205 GTi 1.6 and i've been hearing creaking and a clunking/knocking sound coming from the rear drivers side suspension.

Will the rear beam be in need of a rebuild? I have removed the axle from the car but I'm unsure about doing the rebuild myself as I've never done one before.

I've looked at buying a complete new axle from imaxle.co.uk but they are currently out of stock, also found one on Antalex.pl but not sure about it.

Craig.

Profile says Southampton,  so not too far from Miles at Pugracing.

I would not recommend getting a complete 'new' unit, they are very rarely the correct spec nor do they tend to be particularly high quality.

If its never been rebuilt then its definitely due a refresh at the very least.

Yeah I'm in Southampton, I'd been reading on here about the rear beams and the new units on Imaxle seemed like they weren't worth it.

Corners cut by not using oe, and using cheap chinese kits instead

Is it worth contacting Pugracing for the rebuild?

Given your location I would say yes.
