Hydraulic Hand brake

Seems New MSA regs say that you need a separate handbrake lever for a hydraulic handbrake , Its is no longer acceptable to add hydraulic operation to the existing cable lever.

Anyone managed to arrange 2 handbrake levers between front bucket seats? Any pics?

Vertical levers are still not allowed, 45 degree  max

2023 Yearbook

R 18.6.3. Brakes are free but must comply with Construction and Use Regulations. A hydraulic handbrake is permitted where a functioning mechanical system is also present. The hydraulic handbrake lever shall operate in an arc not exceeding 50 degrees from the horizontal.

As with any rule, it is as much what it doesn't say as what it does say. But the standard lever with cables still attached and working with a modification to include a hyd cylinder on it, meets this definition to me.

Hi Tom

There was an item on  Road Rally Facebook group 2 or 3 weeks ago where some scruts are insisting on a separate hydraulic lever as they deem a combined system does not comply with C&U regs if the hydraulics fail.

Mine had a combined system but disabled for the moment. Just wondered if anyone had managed to fit 2 levers on a 205 as not much room between the seats on mine

I just came on here to post about this very topic, although I had heard that vertical hydraulic handbrakes were to be allowed in 2024 ( for targa rallying).

I had just fitted 106 front calipers to the rear and had mounted the hydraulic lever in the original lever's position between the seats.

It seems I'm back to the drawing board. are the 32mm piston rear calipers (gti6 /xsara) much of an improvement over the standard 30mm items? Or are there any other options for a decent rear caliper?

I've fitted a home made hydraulic handbrake to my 306 race car. The standard gti6 rear caliper have plenty of bite with hydraulic handbrake. I do have a pretty long vertical handle on it though.
