Engine / Piston Identification - help please :-)

Recommended Posts

Tideee

Morning all,

I'm after a bit of help in identifying what I've got in the below images please ....

The engine block has no ID plate on it and would like to confirm what it "actually" is before I go and spend time rebuilding it, so any help with identification of the camshaft and pistons would be most appreciated (,....and any options and tips you guys might have to improve things whilst it's all apart :P

Thanks :D

The pistons appear to be the DFZ 105hp ones. Kinda weird that there is one different piston in there albeit also a 105 hp one.

Do you have a picture of the combustion chamber in the head by any chance?

Edit: according to the rebuild manual the camshaft is from a D6D RFX RFU or RSD engine.

Two white rings on cylinder #2, the camshaft should be from a XU9J2 or XU9JAZ. With the head and pistons you have it can't be a XU9J2 but a XU9JAZ sould have big dish pistons.

Speaking of pistons even the markings on the one in the middle left aren't exactly the same than the ones in the outside.

Looks ideal to drop an XU9JA head and cam upgrade on to make some more power.

Does the bottom end have the spacer plate between the block and sump?

Oh and what size are the big ends?   50 or 45mm?

DFZ pistons were also used in BDY, thus you need to measure the stroke to confirm whether 1.9 or 1.6L. Thus what Welshpug said above in relation to big end diameter.

How much lift on the inlet lobes? Subtract base circle diameter from overall height.

It's a DKZ cam, Peugeot start to count cylinders from the flywheel. On the camshaft drawing E1 and A1 cams are on the distributor/flywheel side and A4 and E4 are on the timing belt side.

Just been for a measure and big ends are indeed 50mm (....or as close as I can measure with a vernier caliper )

You have the 1.6 115 - 1.9 130/122 head with the 122hp cam. That's the "right" head, the cam isn't as good as the one on the 130hp engine.

The bottom end is a 1905cc with small dish pistons, it was either lifted from a DFZ engine or made by mixing GTI 1.6 pistons with 1905cc rods and crank. With 4 pistons that don't look exactly the same it could be the later but as long as the parts are in good condition it doesn't matter.

This head/pistons combo has a nice compression ratio.
