Front hub flange compatibility

Recommended Posts

We persevered with wheel bolts for too long on the race car (205 1.6GTI) and have stripped the front flanges.  Although now helicoiled, they are not good and need replacing.

Are the flanges the same across all 205s?  Or are the 1.6GTI ones different in any way

Are there any tips or recommendations regarding the fitting of a stud conversion?

If of interest I have a pair of brand new 1.6 flanges. I ordered 1.9 but these came and by the time I got them out of the box it was too late.

The 1.6 GTI has special flanges, the only 205 to have them are those with "1.6" drivetrain: CTI, Euro Rallye, Gentry without ABS, GTI 1.9 105hp.

Wheel bearings are still the standard ones and so are driveshafts splines, if you want to go bigger you need 1.9 GTI parts.

I must apologize to the three of you.  I had (at least thought I had) turned on 'notify me of replies', and thought no one had replied ...

Working backward, Mei, a brilliant article, I will definitely use it as a reference in the future!

Boring out the existing flange, perhaps having rotated 45deg, is not off the table....

Baptise, the regulations in our race championship allow only the most minimal of modifications, so it is a question of finding the optimum of what is permitted (i.e., I can prove it was fitted to a 1.6GTI).  As the maximum front track is desirable, there seems little value in using anything other than the larger offset 1.6 flange (is that 3307 50?).  However, I heard a rumour at Donington over the weekend that there is an even larger offset version on the very early 1.6s (tying in with Mei's article) - I would have no idea how to get a pair.

Tom, I'm on a steep learning curve here, are your ones the 3307 50?  I would be very interested.
