Timing markings required

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

i have currently changing the timing belt on my 1.9 gti. But it’s not run properly since owning it and think I may have found out why.
The belt and tensioner looks new and some paint markings are on the pulleys match up on rotation but when look at markings on diagram below these don’t match up to what’s on the vehicle.
Am I best just taking the belt off aligning the belt with the 10mm dowels? Or are there any markings on the pulleys.
The notch in picture below is roughly 90 degrees out but cam shaft is in correct location.

That diagram is nothing like an 8 valve xu engine!

if it has been turned over any marks on the belt wont line up, you are best pinning it.

You need a 2x 10mm pins for the cam and the crank pulley.

Leave the belt on, turn it till the cam is close, get the crank pin in and see how far out the cam is.
