RHD to LHD conversions parts list

Recommended Posts

GtiCti

Hi all,

I have two RHD cars, a 91 GTI and an 89 CTI that I would like to convert to LHD.

I am starting with a list of parts to source.  This is what I can think of first of all.  Any further thoughts or info on where to locate the parts?

Headlights

Steering rack
Steering column
Carpets
Dashboard
Instrument dash cover
Speedo cable
Clutch cable
Brake lines
Km/h speedo
Wiring loom for dash?
Coolant hoses?

thanks.

danger ahead:

two previously fine RHD cars - in bits

plus two LHD donor cars - in bits

alternative route suggested:

keep or sell your GTI and CTi and just go get an existing original running driving LHD 205

Not so easy.  My GTI has only 30k km and is practically impossible to register another non CAT car like this in Switzerland.  Just finding a car would be virtually impossible and cost 30k+.  I’m asking for a list of things that need changing not if it’s easy or not.

my fault, straying beyond your enquiry

mine was a much simpler petrol to diesel conversion

You're right for the wiring loom and coolant hoses, there is also the heater behind the dash but the main problem is with the body itself.

You need a LHD shell to cut what you need and weld it on your RHD car. And it's not just a few brackets, there is a big part of the firewall that needs to go.

oh no - its one of those cars is it?  like a 911.  ok - well i guess the best option is i find a crap old LHD 205 locally in italy and cut that up.  nothing GTI/CTI specific about the metalwork changes are there?  i should be able to get one for a few hundred EUR.
