PTS Group A Coilovers? (identification needed - pics inside)

Recommended Posts

I accidentally a Group A Rally Car

Along with it came a bunch of what supposedly are PTS parts, such as these strange looking coilovers + some spare springs.

The question now is: What exactly is this???
The car is a 1.9 GTI, not a Rallye, I suppose those coilovers are specific? As a 1.3 weighs a lot less than a 1.9.
And what about those springs? Do they even belong to the dampers?

Any information will be appreciated!

At least they look like the real deal:

Aside from the 205 1.6/1.9/Rallye you can also find them on the 309 Gr.A and Turbo.

Do you have the rear ones? they also have some extra oil capacity.

It all pretty much looks like the real deal

No rear dampers of that kind, though. I have yet do identify them, but they look rather conventional.

Does anybody know anything else on those specific springs? I find them to be quite short. Do the numbers on the black ones help us? The yellow ones don't have any numbers or markings.
I found a Peugeot Sport parts catalogue from 1992, featuring those coilovers, but with different springs than mine.

Nice catch; any pics of the car?

Wrt to the springs; the 70 is likely the diameter, which is 70mm for PTS springs and the 35 likely the spring rate in N/mm.

35 * 5.71 = 200 lbs/in.  Iirc the GTI group A were 225 lbs/in?

Yes, definitely Grp A hubs, in 1.9L shaft size. I've also had a pair in 1.6L shaft size. I have no idea about those wishbones however. Mine were based on oem wishbones.

Looks like there was a diff between 1.6 and 1.9 GrA

No good pics so far. I will probably open another thread with pics and the backstory in the projects section, but first I need to actually pick up the car and make up my mind on a project plan ^_^

wow, they look very fancy and in good condition

especially the 1.9 GrA control arms

not much help but just on looks alone those black springs must be original Peugeot , the brush markings are the same as all the OE springs I've seen (diff colours though)

PTS stuff from Bilstein; I still have some 70mm Forest stuff in my shed, but all too long (9-10.5") for my cars.

(So if you want to get rid of those black spring.... ;-) )

Thanks for the offer, Rolf, but TBH I haven't really decided on what to do with them, yet.
While it's quite likely that I will sell them IF it's confirmed that they are exclusive for the 1.3 Rallye (mine's a 1.9 GTI), they will probably go as the whole set.

---

Today, I confirmed the interchangeability of those springs and used that as an excuse to take some more, sexy pics

It should be for extra oil and extra cooling capacity, they also did it on the rear ones:

Finally picked it up, here's the thread with some pics (it will probably get moved to the correct section, soon):

It seems like the rear ones are still mounted on the car :)

So far, I had too little time to disassemble them, but the rear shocks mounted on the car look quite chunky and read 'PEUGEOT ULR' and '...224 M 9'.

Ideally, it could be these shocks featured in a PTS catalogue (#1 on the left, so without additional reservoir, but still for 'asphalte' application):

I also found some specially marked torsion bars on the car. Any clues on those?

Baptiste, do you happen to have more photos like this?
I would be very interested in any technical details, currently mostly regarding the suspension and engine bay (aspiration, injection, ignition etc.)

Measure the diameter; likely 21 or 23mm.
