Absolutely, had to jack up rear n/s take wheel off and support with axle stand right at the very back of car ,remove jack , cut away some of the rear floor where floor pan meets. You might spot my 205 out and about around Cwmbran from time to time, mines a 1998 1.4 Generation LHD, blue, but a deeper blue than your GTI. You should be able to see a pic on my profile.
