309 gti ARB

Recommended Posts

boldy205

Hi,

I have a 309 gti beam, which has a 22mm ARB. I'm looking at upgrading it to add some turn in.

If I was to up it to 25mm, would I see a difference? Might more than 25mm start to make it snappy at the rear?

I appreciate this is a bit of a vague question, any help is appreciated!

Car is a 205 gti, used for track only.

Thanks!

Matt

It will definitely help turn-in, but you'll see more significant improvement from an increase in torsion bar size. It's good to do one thing at a time though, so you appreciate/understand the difference. What size torsion bars do you currently have?

Thats my thoughts too. Tweak  bits to see each components change.

Brief overview of the suspension is as follows:

1.9 gti

Spax adjustable all round (old, but actually seem to work fine. Will look at upgrading as funds allow)

309 front arms

309 rear beam, std torsion bars and 22mm ARB

GRP N mounts to beam and front struts

Std front 1.9 GTI front ARB

Toyo R888R tyres.

Thanks!

As you already have 22mm ARB, I would maybe consider upgrading the torsions instead/first? Will do more than upgrading the ARB only.

25mm ARB won't make it snappy. I think 23mm torsions with 25mm ARB is a common used combination for track-only.

I use 23mm bars and a 24mm anti roll bar on the road.

I would do your torsion bars first of all. You will probably gain more after that from more front camber.

How does that go in the wet!

Its fine, just drive it accordingly. It is more upset by bumpy roads to be honest.

Thanks for the ideas, think I'll go torsion bars first, see how they are.

I do have some adjustable front arms, so will get those on after.
