Select the best gearbox ratio

Hi
I have a 205gti 1.9 xu9ja reinforced car
My car engine has about 140 horsepower
I am looking for the best offer to choose a gear ratio & gear final drive
for drag and high acceleration
Please provide the appropriate gear final drive(Differential Gearbox) number and gear ratio
and also
provide the appropriate gear gearbox number and gear ratio
1st?
2nd?
3rd?
4th?
5th?
&
Differential rato or final drive
Please specify the number of gear teeth
So that I can better prepare the gears I need
For example, gear 1st number 13x38 with a factor of 2.923
Or diffrential gearbox (final drive)
17x81 with a factor of 4.764
Please guide me
Tnx

" drag and high acceleration " is a bit vague, are you still using it as a road car?

Also do you have a BE1 or BE3 gearbox?

For a road car you can try the 14x62 final drive from the 405 Mi16.

As for the ratios you won't find anything better on another stock 5 speed gearbox. What's left is a QUAIFE gearkit or some old Peugeot Sport stuff.

There is also the 6 speed from the 306:

The only other stock final ratio for this gearbox is 19x75 but you can also find racing ones:

Thanks for your help

Please suggest a gearbox for 5 gears

A great combination for drag and acceleration

I do not care about the road, only acceleration

I'm looking for a great combination

I've got a Quaife gearset on a 4.4 FD from an Mi16 box and I love it.  It's a rally car so road use wasn't considered.  My rev limiter is 8500 rpm and this gives me  top speed of 130mph on 15' wheels but it gets there pretty quick - 100mph comes up in about 600m from standing start..  The Bacci Romano gearset is even shorter than the Quaife but I've no personal experience of it.

You can use the gearbox from a 1.6 , BE3

As I said on FB, I still think a 1.9L GTi box and Mi16 cwp is your best option. However, you can also build more of a hybrid by combining the following parts:

1st 1.9L GTi or Mi16 2.92:1

2nd 1.85

3rd GTi6 1.41

4th GTi6 1.15

5th GTi6 0.95

cwp Mi16 4.43

This gives an overall 5th equivalent to a 4.75 cwp and 0.865 5th from a 205. Given the recent spike in GTi6 gearbox prices, it might be cheaper to buy a new 4.75 cwp from Bacci. I'm a bit down on Quaife after my 4.75 failed after a relatively short life. Also, GTi6 gears aren't as strong as 205 gears due to finer teeth.

On my trackday car I have a (stock power) Mi16 with 1.6 gearbox and like the ratio's.

Not as short as the 1.9 GTI box with Mi16 cwp, but on track I like the longer 2nd gear wrt the Mi16 box. I don't race, so no standing starts or other need to launch quickly.

In the 3th-5th the 1.6 box is shorter than the Mi16 box, which is nice on the track.

I’m not sure you want short ratios for drag, you would  change gear 5 times by the end of the 1/4 mile and gear changes cost time

depends how much power/torque you have, there will be a point where a gear would be too long and the en4 bogs down, or you toast the clutch getting off the line.

for drag racing though, i really wouldn't choose an 8v 205!

I'm sure Phils drag car was better with longer ratios, he only had 3 gear changes which I think he smashed his fastest times. I'm not sure if he's on these forums much now but he's on Facebook as 'rapidrattler' iirc

I think you'd be lucky to get 3 gear changes in before the end of the quarter mile with a standard engine

If the power to weight ratio is good enough then you want to gear it so you are just about flat out in 4th over the line.

In an 8v 205 unlikely.

I have some experience here.
