Toyos Or Goodyears

Recommended Posts

Ahl

At the moment, you can get Toyos Proxes for £32 each on mytyres.co.uk and Goodyear Eagles for £41 on topgear.co.uk. (both including delivery)

I know Goodyears are just a little better, but do they last longer too?

Depends.

I don't know about the Toyos' but I have done 10k on Eagle F1 GSD3's and they don't seem to be wearing as well as the GSD2's did. I did nearly 20k on the D2's and they just about illegal. Don't think the D3's will last >15k.

Grippy little buggers, mind.

IMO.

Justin.

f1 last longer but i think they are also wider , cos they are catching on my 306 at the moment... but i also have the proxes on my 406 and to be honest i cant really tell the difference as they have a similar tread pattern ... personally i would buy the proxes and same myself a few quid

In the dry there's probably no difference. In the wet the F1's are better than anything out there.

I would imagine that wear would be similar.

My local ETS will fit & balance F1's with a new valve for £44.

I bought the Toyo's from mytyres and I've been very pleased.

In the dry they have as much grip as my old slicks (bald tyres!) and in the wet they are very good.

Depending on the difference in price I would pay the extra for the F1's, but at the time it would have been about £25 extra just for the 2. NOt worth it on my car.

I wouldn't get them from mytyres again, because my local tyre place now fits T1's for £37.50.

Can't recommend Eagles enough!

As someone already stated, the difference is the wet grip of the Eagle. Give so much confidence on wet, greasy roads!

I got mine cheap, not a lot more than a set Toyo's so the decision was already made!

My Toyos lasted 10,000 miles for a set of 4 on the 405, I've done 6000 ish with the GSD3's and I am nowhere near to swapping them round yet, definitely the Goodyears.

not tried toyos but have f1s on my 206 gti and when it is wet it is like driving in the dry, they are an extremely good tyre, also look fantastic on a 205

I would vote for the F1s too, though the Toyos are a good tyre too and even "better" considering they are cheaper.

Another thing to consider (if you are bothered about this) is that the F1s look nicer on the wheel/car as they are pretty wide "195s"; the Toyos I've had in comparison looked thinner and look like they had taller sidewalls.

Ive got 4 toyos on at the moment and although they are amazing in the dry IMO they are utter s*ite in the wet, I think it was autocar that did a comparison on them with F1s amongst others and also said they were crap in the wet. My A539s were better in the wet than these

Ill definately be going for F1s next time

Sounds good. Thanks for the replys guys.

I'll go for the goodyears if they're still as cheap when I come to buy them.

The Toyos ive got on at the mo are almost down to the limit, but they have done at least 15k miles.

I was hoping the Goodyears lasted 30% longer to justify the 30% increase in price in my stengy mind! :D

but I have also seen various tests stating that they last considerably longer so I'll get them if I can.

Ooh! Silly me!

I thought I'd go out last night and skid my car around a bit in the snow, but it was super slippy (snow over ice I think) and I slid the car square into a kerb.

It wasn't very fast, but its been enough to puncture or knock one of the tyres off the rim so it looks like I'll be getting the new tyres pronto!

and some snow chains! :D

Goodyears everytime. been using them for last five years and f1's for the last three.

can't beat them. they make the 205 so drivable in the wet, they done 15K on 17's being driven hard.

i just looked at the sites mentioned above. And what profile are you choosing?

I was after a set of 195/45/15 or 185/45/15 but looking at nearly 60 quid a tyre.

I know a friend who used to run toyo's on the rear and avon's on the front. Used to be a nice combination, sometimes when pushed really hard tended to understeer.

what size do people use for 1.9 alloys? 195 or 185?

cheers lee

In the EVO mag test, the Proxies were best tyre in the wet. F1's were best in the dry.

Is that the most recent test nick?

Those tyre prices are for 195/50/15

Yeh 2003 test.

Overal the F1 came 1st, the Continental Sports came 2nd and the Proxies 3rd.

You have got to be joking! My proxies are terrible in the wet

A bit stupid how Evo rate them really good in the wet and autocar rate them very poorly in the wet (beaten by all others including F1s)

On my MR2, I can't say that I noticed much difference in wet weather grip between Toyo's and Eagle F1's - the Eagle's had slightly more grip in the dry, but the Toyo's the more progressive breakaway.

Would have though the Toyos get a decent all round review with the F1 being best in the wet. Normally dry handling goes to something like a top-end Pirelli.

Not strictly true.

On the Focus the Toyo proved the quickest round the track in the wet cos the tyres made the rear nervous......and ultimately......thats what makes a FWD car quick.

However......the test drivers said the Toyo didn't feel very nice so even though it was the quickest......it was marked down cos of the feel.
