Oil leak - pls help!

Hey there, I am not overly engine competent so asking for help but might be silly question!

 

I had cambelt changed and water pump, recently and also did an oil change. It drove fine with no leaks for 30+ miles but 150 miles later its leaking a lot of oil

 

 I have checked things like sump plug, filter is tight etc. I have cleaned it all up and looks like there is a small leak from one of the oil cooler entries but not the source of the main oil leak.

 

Its super hard to see but seems to be coming from behind the alternator.

 

Any ideas what it might be? Where should I look next? 

 

Any advice gratefully received as its not a slow leak and can't really drive it :(

check the hose by the oil cooler pipe for a split under the jubilee clip

You can see the oil seemingly coming from above this sensor..... what is this sensor by the way?

I think that sensor may be the oil pressure sender, bit difficult to see , is that the alternator main cable?

 

Clean everything off in the area and see what happens then. Some of it may be old

It's the low oil pressure warning switch, the sender for the oil pressure gauge is just on the right. If the leak is higher than that then it should be on the head gasket or above.

Looks very much like it's the sensor leaking, looks a lot wetter below it that above.

Thanks for replies - I can't go look until later this week coming so i'll check all the above.

 

The wire fell off the oil pressure switch a while ago :)

 

I hope its not the head.... just odd how it started after oil change but will dig a bit deeper.

 

All pretty difficult to clean in round there due to alternator

Take the alternator off ( a few minutes work) , it will give you much more room to see, clean and and fix anything/

So looks like it's the oil pressure switch! Which is good news.

 

Night be silly question but do I need to drain oil to replace it?

 

Also I keep getting about 10 results for the part online and none of them look right. Any ideas what one is right for xu phase 1.5?

No you do not need to drain the oil. Switch or gauge sender as the XU is fitted with both?

Looks to me like your wiring has broken for the sensor plug. Too, worth fixing that while you're there. They only seal on a little copper washe from memory. The switch might not be broken and need replacing.

Cheers for that - yes snapped as I touched it! yes prob just the seal - having a look at it asap.

 

Any tips on replacing the plug - it doesn't look reuseable ?!

I meant the electrical connector... not sure how to rewire it?

Crimp a new spade connector on. As easy as it gets.
