Hi

can anyone help?

Having a problem with a “J” Reg 1991 GtI 1.9

took engine out for respray after respray refitted engine and car is now massively overfueling, to the point it is dumping the fuel in the oil, if we disconnect the fuel pump, car runs fine until fuel is exhausted, we then reconnect pump, car will start but misses until we again disconnect pump, then runs fine until fuel is again exhausted.

Again please help

Have you got the fuel return pipe connected to the right place, ie the regulator?

Just try tapping it lightly.

Have you connected the SAD (Supplementary air device) & CTS (Coolant temp sensor) plugs in the right places?

They can easily be crossed over which will cause problems.

SAD plug is black & CTS is blue, both two pin plugs.

Hi I had the same thing. Two problems that caused mine. 1. the AFM connector. The pins were broken incomplete.  I bought a 5 pin connector from France plus 5 new pins. did the whole lot just to be sure but it could be even one. The one on the end the green is important. 2. the fuel pressure regulator. that wasnt working at all.

I did those things and it works really well now without the massive overfuelling.

It was exactly the same - there was so much fuel it mixed with the oil to make the sump full of diluted petrol oil mixture. had to dump that. oil/petrol solution. it was even coming out the exhaust manifold of mine.

hope this might help

Rock Lobster

I had an issue like this and fuel was being pumped directly into the manifold via a defective fuel reg, took me bloody ages to find it!
