XU5J Oil Spray Bar O Rings

Recommended Posts

Ashman

Hello

I am looking for a set of O Rings that should fit onto the oil spray bar (Have put a shout out in the wanted section). On inspection my O rings seem to be missing! I am getting oil weeping through the three cam cover bolts (used copper washers which helped) and also oil seems to be creeping through the cam cover seal - despite replacing this with a new one recently. I can only think the oil is blowing past the spray bar fittings (as the seals are missing) and spraying directly onto the top underside of the cover and not through the bar and then down onto the cam journals as it should! Does that seem feesable?

All advice greatly received

Ashley

Part No. for the spray bar O-rings is - 1166 21 .

It's just the cam cover gasket , even new ones tend to leak ... undo the valve cover and remove the gasket , clean it thoroughly free from oil and apply some non setting sealant inside the gasket groove , fit back and tighten the three cover bolts lightly (think it's 8Nm for the cam cover bolts) . And should be fine afterwards .

Around the cam cover bolts base there used to be fiber O-rings , but copper ones do the job just fine .

Rang Peugeot earlier and told the part number for the O Rings is listed - 116621, but Peugeot do not have any stock and neither do my dealership! They do not know if there will be anymore stock!!! The spray bar is a discontinued item.

I'll try a touch of sealant inside the new gasket to try and stop that leak.

Thanks

Sorry to hijack your thread, I have the opposite problem. I wanted to check the tappet's but after removing all the cam cover bolts there was no way i could remove the cover. I did not want to put taper wedges under it as It may damage the faces.  Tried block of wood and a wack with an hammer. Any ideas please

Think laterally men!! They are an o ring. As sold in many places. Take the spray bar with you to such a place to identify a size that will fit and do the job in hand. Then buy enough to do the job

If the seal has been stuck down is the only real answer. Try a Stanley knife blade carefully between seal and head top face.

Yes indeed and I spent quite sometime at my local 'O Ring factors' (I had the offending bar with me) this afternoon and the O Rings that go on the bar aren't strictly O Rings! The faces should flat and not curved (more like a rubber band) - your standard O Ring that fits the bar nicely is then too wide to fit down into the recess of the journal!

With further investigation I might be able to find a suitable item, but I thought of you lovely people first.

They did not start life flat, that is just what happens over 30 years of heat cycles. You just need some the same dia with a thinner X section.

I don't rightly know what shape they were new or old in truth - as mine have disappeared! I was just guessing from the various ones I tried earlier, with no success, that they should actually be a 'flat section' type. Perhaps not, but as you say - I just need some that fit.

Was also unable to source them O-rings from the dealer few years ago , guess they had them available for order still back then but simply didn't want to bother thus said - can't be done .

My local mechanic lend me dig around his assortment box of O-rings , and after a poke i found some green AC O-rings which suit the dimension .. so try with the green AC O-rings , as they usually come in various odd measurements much "finer" than the ordinary black ones .. chemical , oil , pressure wise the green ones are also more resistant/durable than the black ..
