Igiition wiring very long. Is this normal?

Just trying to put my dashboard and wiring all back together after a complete dismantle. I was always annoyed that a lot of the wiring around the driver's side would hang down quite a lot and never seemed nicely secured out of the way. One of the worst offenders is the loom from the ignition key and the part it connects to via the brown and white connectors, as shown the the photo. Is it normal for it to be this long (I'm tempted to shorten it)? How is it normally secured in place?

I'm running an Mi16 engine with a Motronic ECU, so the loom from that is a bit different from the standard. So I wonder when it was originally done some securing things were removed.

I'm also going to fit a remote central locking controller and an immobiliser, so those will need tucking up there too; but there's no obvious places to mount them.

it should be clipped to the side of the a-pillar behind the trim by the keyways on the plugs, that part of the cars wiring should be untouched from an ecu swap.

So it should be clipped to something behind the mounting bracket on the right in this photo?

I've made a bracket that attaches between the steering column and the A-pillar dash mount that hangs below the ECU. I've attached my central locking controller and some clips to attach the looms to. It looks a lot neater now, and hopefully will avoid all this hanging down.

The mystery connector is the red one in the second photo. It's the one on the left hanging down above the brown connectors. Does anyone recognise what this is? I did label most things when I took it all apart, but this doesn't have anything on it. I know I had a couple of unused connectors, so maybe it's one of those.

BTW, the three spade connectors on the right are for a remote switch to the engine fan. I got fed up with the thermo-switch on the radiator playing up, so added this to allow the fan to be turned on should the engine get hot.
