welshpug 1,661 Posted May 3, 2020 looks rather too long, the spring isnt usually stretched that far.
mmt 15 Posted May 3, 2020 It’s a pic from an old thread on here. Not my box, just the only pic I could find of the spring. never had one with a spring fitted. What is the advantage? If any?

What is the advantage? If any? When the push rod falls out and is lost, (as presumably was the one in the picture, hence the threaded rod) You will regret not having one. Usually happens if the cable snaps or is ridiculously loose on the adjuster.
Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted May 4, 2020 Is there any way of lock wiring this push rod to the gearbox, so if the spring or clutch cable does fail it doesn't disappear?
mmt 15 Posted May 4, 2020 (edited) The rally guys Seem to like the spring. I figure a hard landing could knock the rod out if no spring. it would hang in the lock wire- not functioning but you’d still have the rod to refit. Edited May 4, 2020 by mmt
Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted May 6, 2020 Is the sole purpose of the spring to keep the rod between the quadrant and lever tight and in place?
welshpug 1,661 Posted May 6, 2020 yes, the cable does that, till it breaks.
