Spring on be box

Anyone have a pic of the spring on some of the leavers on the be boxes?

It’s a pic from an old thread on here. Not my box, just the only pic I could find of the spring. 
 

never had one with a spring fitted. What is the advantage? If any?

When the push rod falls out and is lost, (as presumably was the one in the picture, hence the threaded rod) You will regret not having one. Usually happens if the cable snaps or is ridiculously loose on the adjuster.

Is there any way of lock wiring this push rod to the gearbox, so if the spring or clutch cable does fail it doesn't disappear?

The rally guys Seem to like the spring. I figure a hard landing could knock the rod out if no spring. 
 

it would hang in the lock wire- not functioning but you’d still have the rod to refit.

Is the sole purpose of the spring to keep the rod between the quadrant and lever tight and in place?

Pin looks long as has been said already. It should be 40mm end to end with a generous radius on both ends.
