Idle drop when i lift the clutch pedal..

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

i’m Kees from the Netherlands and i have a 205 gti 1.6 from 1987.   I have some idle/ running problems with the car. When i lift the clutch pedal the idle drops noticable and the motor stalls. This is with car in Neutral (out of gear). I don’t know how thats possible. Somebody who know what this can be? (I checked for air leaks. I also let the car run with TPS not in “idle mode” because then it wont idle at all or runs very bad sometimes. I checked the Afm and i know there is a small glitch in the “carbon” track.)

It suggests there is some drag from the gearbox even in neutral. 205 gearboxes have a tendency to loosen the bolts holding them to the engine so it might be coming away and at a funny angle.

Also worth checking that the idle switch actually is working, easy to test the tps with a meter or test light.

Yeah, i checked the tps (With multimeter on ecu). Its working fine but i forced it to work without “idle” mode because its running bad on this mode. (Lot of smoke and lot of bangs when i apply throttle).  Its workin better in normal mode but still idle is very unstable. Sometimes its running good for 20 seconds or something.
i replaced the fuel pump relay, coil, coil lead and ignition amp. The ignition amp is not original bosch but Quinton hazel xei5.
