Well, it's not like we can do anything else is it?   Car is an H reg, phase 1.5, Sorrento Green, 1.9l

Remembering where everything goes is my problem, even though I took lots of photos and labelled all the parts. Haynes manual helps and of course this forum.

Compression tested today before the engine gets taken to bits

 

(Not entirely sure of cylinder numbering convention)

 

4 (RHD drivers side) - 120 psi

3 - 130 psi

2 - 135 psi

1 - 130 psi

 

Poured a teaspoon of oil into 4 and re-tested.  This then yielded 175 psi, tested again and dropped to 150 psi

 

Spark plug in 4 was very black/sooty

Great tip on this forum about removing the inlet manifold before removing the injectors.  One of the ends popped off when removed and they required a fair amount of force to get them out.

 

Any recommendations for companies who service injectors?

Completely restoration hopefully.  I'd really like to get it resprayed once everything's out.  The leather interior needs a bit of TLC.  Just have to see how expensive things come out.

All out without too much fuss.  Had been covering them in transmission fluid and acetone mixture for a few days before.  Got a bit of a shock when I heard my first crack/creak through the breaker bar but just backed off and rocked back and forth until it started to give.

Nice one O.T had actually been eyeing up this kit here - 1.9 engine rebuild kit.  It seems to give me everything I need?

Ed China certainly made this look easier, now I know why they cut the bit where he undoes the cambelt pulley bolt!

Looks a great kit.

Ye'h those pulleys can be fun. Should be good in future once you've had it off though.

The shock from an impact gun is infinitely better for breaking bolts loose than a breaker bar.

This felt much more involved than Haynes suggested it should have done.  Would welcome any observations on the state of the cylinders, head, valves etc

that seems rather excessive and expensive, find your local machining specialist and let them check all the tolerances, reface the head and supply everything to suit.

 

they're also sneaky buggers and list everything without vat till you add it to the basket, that's £611 delivered :o
