GTi6 cam journals - salvageable?

Recommended Posts

Henry 1.9GTi

Quarantine has finally got me to look at a GTi-6 head I've had as a "spare", but never looked at for years. Plan was to have it worked on and then build into a solid lifter setup.

However, on disassembly and looking at the CAM journals there are some light markings on some but one has been very badly scored. Is the head junk or can a machine shop do something with this? My knowledge is extremely limited here!

Thank you.

What are the corresponding journals in the upper half of the carrier like? Are they showing a similar amount of damage?

I'm no engineer, However I would say there's probably enough of the journal there to live on, I'd imagine with the high spots taken out it would be fine.

what does the cam look like?

I’d use it as it is.

If you wanted to be a perfectionist, you’d get them line bored. Otherwise, use it as is.

In which case, he said belatedly , very carefully remove any high spot with some 600 wet and rebuild .
