Porter87 18 Posted October 19, 2019 (edited) Small update. I’ve stripped the block of paint (with the help of free child labour) and repainted it black. Also painted the thermostat housing, throttle body and vacuum pump. Getting there slowly Edited October 19, 2019 by Porter87

Porter87 18 Posted October 21, 2019 (edited) whats your guys opinion on the engine noise for my 6 engine? do you think its a "tapper" sounds tappy to me. I was just thinking while the engine is out I may as well get the head sorted if it is a tapper. just also note that the plastic resonator has been removed and blanked off, not sure if this would amplify the engine noise? fila1223 1 Posted October 21, 2019 that could be a tappet since sound resonate at the same rate as camshaft is spinning

fila1223 1 Posted October 23, 2019 It is possible that when engine sat for a long time some lifters would empty themselves. Just run it for a longer period of time, or just use engine flush and change the oil. If it doesnt go away after this then would be a time to dissasemble the head and look at tappets
Porter87 18 Posted January 30, 2020 Right, a lot has changed since I last posted. I put a poll up on one of the facebook groups to see peoples opinion on modifying or keeping it standard.... the poll came out with standard on top by a huge margin. after this i decided that rather than butcher a perfectly good example i would look for a modified one that I could put my own spin on. A friend of mine then messaged me asking if i would be interested in his gti6 engined 1.9 205 gti, the best part about this is it is in red as this is the color i wanted and he is a an race engine builder so i knew the engine would be good. the engine is spec'd as follows newman stage four cams 3 angled valves seats, wossner pistons pec rods longman inlet manifold Twin Weber 45's compression ratio of 12.8:1 DTA S40 management making around 218 bhp (i'll get it on the rollers soon enough) as soon as he mentioned about selling the car mine went straight up for sale. The car needs a few bits doing to it to make it my own, so I'm busy changing out parts back to original items such as the grill, new rear tailgate trim, silver alloys, fit original spoiler etc.. I also want to re route the fuel lines using PTFE fittings/braided hose, re route the throttle cable and just do a general tidy up of the engine bay, mostly changing the blue items to black and re route the oil catch tank set up. the rear beam will need replacing and a couple of holes patched up in the boot floor. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea and I've kinda of cheated my way to the result but I'm happy with the set out... standard looks with the power of the modified 6 engine, plus I've always been a sucker for carbs. the time needed to get to this point would of took me forever due to work commitments and family, anyway i hope you guys like it and I will hopefully start making more meets as the better weather gets closer
Porter87 18 Posted February 5, 2020 new grill, fogs and silver wheels now fitted. I also blanked off the vacuum take off on the inlet and re routed the throttle cable to tidy up the engine bay a little. The throttle still has a poor feel to it so ive order two new throttle cables to make the duel set up. hopefully it sorts it out. some jobs ticked off the list, more to follow on Friday
Porter87 18 Posted February 19, 2020 Hi All, Some progress has been made on the car. now have the AN lines and new fuel regulator and have fitted a new twin cable set up for the carbs. Ive also made steps to turn the interior back to standard (gearknob and center console now back to normal with the exception of the gray tray!! black one on order) excuse the carpets as im still in the cleaning process Before After Im now starting to tidy up the oil catch tank and hoses. I've just one question on how to route the breathers. due to the compression ratio being high I think I've got to run all three breathers to a catch tank (as it is now). but ive been looking on YouTube and google images at some high powered GTI6 conversions and they all seem to only run one to the catch tank not all three, leaving the original crankcase to the cam cover one as standard. which way would you guys run them (Red or Blue)? also why is there two breathers off the cam cover? Thanks
SciroccoJohn 2 Posted January 5, 2021 Just taking over responsibility for looking after H514 KPF - great to have come across this thread and all the work you have done! I am in midlife crisis mode so its got a few out of breed brothers! (Manta, Scirocco Mk1, Corrado...) so in good company The car has been resprayed since these posts and generally well loved and cared for - my plan is to take her off the road until Spring and then fully enjoy the B road fun for the summer Would love to know your thoughts about what else you would recommend doing as clearly you are massively more knowledgeable than me on these cars and I am just wanting to look after her in the best way I can! I am just going to go over the recent history as well but any time you want to know anything feel free to ask! If there is any other information on the car would obviously love to know Cheers John

Porter87 18 Posted September 1, 2021 (edited) just saw this tread pop up again so thought I'd give a quick update since my last post on the 19/02/20 haha Ive done alot on the car since the last post some of the main points are Refurbished 309 rear Beam fitted and ride height set to approximately 30mm lower Custom exhaust made (copy of standard but in 2.5") with pug racing (Miles) 4 branch Edited September 1, 2021 by Porter87
Porter87 18 Posted September 1, 2021 also added a TTV flywheel and LSD
Porter87 18 Posted September 1, 2021 (edited) next was to tidy up the floor and repair any rust. whilst i was doing this I added new sound proofing to the floor and boot, cleaned the carpet and added a new battery set up Edited September 1, 2021 by Porter87
Porter87 18 Posted September 1, 2021 (edited) I tried to work with the carbs but in the end I ended up sacking them off to convert to injection. so I went down the Jenvey 45 route with an Omex 600 ecu and 60mm trumpets. whilst doing this I added the an fuel fittings and PFTE lines, Baker BM Shortened radiator, change the hoses to Black Baker BM ones (rather than the blue) and got a new sensor loom made up from Miles. I probably should of changed out the inlet to a satchell unit at this point but i kept with the Jenvey longman one.... maybe something for the future? Porter87 18 Posted September 1, 2021 (edited) Took the car to Northampton motorsport for mapping and it made a healthy 192 whp (211 bhp @ the flywheel) with 175 ftlbs of torque Edited September 1, 2021 by Porter87
Porter87 18 Posted September 1, 2021 (edited) the car was suffering from hot intake temps so i moved the sensor closer to the trumpet mouth (was in the backing plate) added some fiber washers, and made a heat shield to help prevent the heat soak. I'll make a tider version once i know it is effective Edited September 1, 2021 by Porter87
Porter87 18 Posted September 1, 2021 (edited) New window screen for the MOT I've missed loads of little bits along the way but the main points are what I've shown above. Next on the list is a set of AP/ Peugeot sport brakes on the front (currently on order) Pilot sport 3 tires to go on a set of refurbished speed lines (in the next week or so) Full respray with any cosmetic niggles sorted out (hopefully this winter) Thought I'd pop a picture up of before and after Edited September 1, 2021 by Porter87
Porter87 18 Posted September 8, 2021 Wheels freshly powder coated and wrapped in Pilot sports 3. I'll get these on once the brakes arrive, saves me removing the wheels twice, also a sunny day pic whilst im here
Porter87 18 Posted September 27, 2021 AP brake set up has arrived. Just waiting on the brake Flexi's and stud conversion to get them fitted now. New badges, headlights, indicators, door seals, window rubbers and bumper mounting kits arrived ready for the respray. looking for the red trim is proving hard to come across as well as a new set of rear lights, I'm looking for the Valeo ones if anyone has a set for sale? couple of pictures of the brake set up below, these things are light!
Porter87 18 Posted October 5, 2021 (edited) Brakes and stud kit fitted, a bit of grinding required on the pads to miss the bell housing bolts but other than that pretty easy to fit. just waiting for the lock tight to go off then the wheels can go on and its off for paint! Happy days Edited October 5, 2021 by Porter87
