Putting a 1.9 gearbox onto a 1.6 8v

Recommended Posts

As the title suggests. My car has a be3 gearbox fitted. Its a 1.6 engine with twin webers... it goes very nicely but the synchros are gone.

Will a 1.9 gearbox work well with this engine?

What are my other options?

Will any be3 gearbox fit (seen one advertised for a 406 xud)

Car use is daily driver. Sometimes long distance, never on a track.

Thanks

Put the 1.6 gearbox final drive into a 1.9 gearbox.

A standard 1.9 gearbox will make a 1.6 very dull.

A diesel gearbox on a 1.6 will just make you miserable constantly.

Remove gearbox repair synchros put it back. No other gearbox works quite as well as the standard ratios on a 1.6 in my opinion.

whatever you do make sure you get a new clutch at same time, save doing the job twice as well as driveshaft oil seals

You will kill the sporty feeling of the 1.6 with the 1.9 gearbox. Please fix the 1.6 syncro's instead and use that one.

The 1.9 box is too long even for the 1.9 in my opinion..
