That is weird, it almost looks like it's been cut with an angle grinder!

Blimey - that's different :o  Wonder what's caused that - as above, if someone handed you that and asked what happened you'd think someone cut into it.

Staggering!!!!!..... Considering the look of that,,

Perhaps a good inspection of the end of the cam would be good, there maybe a crack there now. We had one break a piece off the end of the cam slot once... Very Nasty !

All the best

O.T.

Quality failure that.

Centrifugal advance mechanisms, springs broken used to do this on very  old Lucas distributors when I were a lad.

Yes, bob weights inside worn through the casing. I bet it sounded rough as anything for a while.

Strangely enough, no nasty warning noises or anything until engine died! and luckily seems fine with replacement dizzy.

Managed the 3 mile drive home, in first gear across town too. First time ive seen a gti exhaust manifold glow cherry red !!! Cooling system must be ok.lol

Interestingly, I have had two distributors do this on me within a space of four years.

My recommendation would be not to buy a second hand unit but get one that has been refurbished. This will cost a lot more but finding a used one that is not on its way out may be difficult.

I literally have a bucket full of distributors, so there is now a spare under my drivers seat!
