Rear axel problem..

Recommended Posts

Dutch205er

I just finished my 1,5 year project in totally renewing my 205 GTI ringing it back to brand new where possible..

Thought the rear axel was OK, too bad it doesnt seem to be that way :/

Was supposed to leave for France in a few hours, after putting all the stuff in the car, and taking it for the last shopping run, i noticed a scraping sound coming from the rear right side when cornering to the left..

After inspecting what could be the cause, i noticed the wheel had hit de metal in front of the wheel..

Rubber mount on the back seems to be ok, after jacking up the car i dont notice any movement, just a screecing sound...

What could be causing this ?

dcc

the bearings in the tube have failed.

probably needs a new cross member as they don't often salvage when gone that far

you can use a basemodel tube if you can't find a decent gti  item

Missing bumpstop is true, replaced the whole axel from a second GTI, which is in standard heigth, after some hard testing, problem is over :)

On the original axel, i noticed this "thingie" isnt as stiff as the one on the left, and on the other axel..the rubber must be worn out.
