Stuttering under load - help greatly appreciated

Hello,

 

After searching and reading lots of topics, i have struggled to find the same symptoms as mine - also the car has new leads, rotor etc - was going to do the ignition amp but this looks brand new!

 

Car is a 1991 1.9 Sorrento - fully standard.

 

Car has been running sweet for a while but half way through a journey the car started to judder and splutter under load. once past this it will accelerate okay. It happens when the car is Hot or Cold - there is no issue starting cold - although it does take quite a while for it to start up when hot (say i leave it for 20 mins it will crank for a long time before going - if i start it up straight after turning off then it will fire quickly)

 

Like i say it is when the engine is under load, the car will rev freely when its in my garage stationary but when i come to a hill or try to accelerate it will stutter quiet severely.

 

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

205 standard management can really be hit and miss.

 

Afm

Rotor arm

Dist. Cap

Ecu temp sensor

Throttle position sensor

Ignition amp

Spark plugs

Spark Plug leads

Fuel pump

Fuel filter

Fuel quality

Alternator

Ignition timing

Air filter

Blocked breathers

And finally headgasket

 

All will impact how nicely your car runs. You say rotor arm/cap done, well check these again. I swapped these for new items for a friend and 6 weeks later the thing bloody died. Checked everything. Turned out the contacts had got damp and had a crud build up.

 

Under load would lead me to think hg

I'd be looking to check fuel pressure. Also check plug colour as an indication.

Thank you very much, I have been to a 205 specialist today who had a drive, seems certain it is ignition related - tried a new Amp and Coil but no change, he seems very sure the dizzy is at fault but didn't have a spare to hand annoyingly! So am popping back on Monday to try a dizzy and hopefully thats it, if not will try other spare parts until we find the culprit!

Based on recent experience - Check fuel pump pressure 

 

If it's still the original pump it's has 25? Years of hard work!
