Recommended Posts

Yep deffo up for a meet, as I said I may need a look at a ‘real life’ GTI some point soon to work out where some of the bits go!!

Hoping for 1st August finish, but don’t hold me to that..

That is how it is. To be honest the purpose of that strap is somewhat vague as to what it actually achieves. On my standard cars I have retained it for originality sake, but on my modified ones it gets removed and left off with no ill effects.

Hmmm. That is a bit s**t isn’t it?

Like you Tom, I’ll leave it on because ‘why not’, but can’t really get my head around what the hell it does??

Nice warm day [again] today, so thought I'd fill all the chassis box sections with cavity wax and give her bottom a nice coat of the black non-hardening Waxoyl stuff.

Ready for the beam and piping up under there now

Stuck some more trims on, looking very GTI on that side now :)

Need to fit the rear crank seal and flywheel/clutch then I can mate the engine and 'box.  Before that goes in I need to brave the wiring loom and remove the horrid Scotchlok nightmare that is the aftermarket alarm

Fit the brake lines, fuel lines, fuel tank, rear beam, in that order!

Will do Tom!

I may have to pop the beam in temporarily while I make up the brake lines.

Beam is at the blasters ready for painting and a rebuild (hopefully this weekend though I’m hoping a cup final will get in the way!!)

Lots of nice stuff came back from the metal platers and powder coaters on Friday, so I’m quite excited about building up the beam and brakes :-)

Finally got on with the beam this afternoon.  She was well seized on one side! Blood, sweat, tears (and a black thumb nail) later it was apart.

New radius arm pin going in...

Pile of bits ready for a de-grease and paint job.  Yellow and black for the tube right?  Also, should the torsion bars be black or red??

:D  If red, I have plenty of 'Cherry' 2K left over.

Hopefully get the engine and 'box together whilst paint is drying too.  I whipped the sump back off and made a nice (!) wooden stand...

Just a few photos of recent progress, cracking on now.  Bit of a setback last night though as when I finally fired her up the bloody water pump bearing was squealing - brand new from Pug it was

They are swapping it under warranty though :)

Well 205'ers, she's on the road!  :D

MoT passed after initially failing on high CO emissions - running much sweeter after getting that adjusted.

A few pictures of the finished article...

Really pleased how it has turned out and with the way it drives too.  I've managed to get a couple of hundred miles in but she's tucked up in bed now they are salting the roads.

It looks really good. This is me being picky, but the shade of the wheel silver looks a little too dark/grey, they are quite a "white" silver usually. But that's super picky, it looks great.

I agree actually Tom, it slightly annoys me too!

The wheels were already refurbed and had tyres fitted when I got them and are a mix of 2 Speedlines and 2 SMRs.  I have now got another 3 Speedlines so will get the lot done at some point.

if anyone has a paint code for the correct shade, please share

I'll be getting the 1.6 wheels done at the same time, I have a guy lined up that can do the diamond cut bits.  It was always the plan to put them back on at least for the local shows.

Code please.....

I’m reluctantly selling this lovely car as I (a) didn’t use it at all last year and, (b) have been told that having multiple classic cars but an unfinished house extension is not a situation that can go on forever!

It will be up for sale as soon as it is MoT'd,  PM me if you are interested.

Price is £12k

You'll regret that...

If you didn't drive it for a year, then this car is not to blaim for the unfinished extension?

No it isn’t the car’s fault, but I can’t justify it sitting there when there is essential work to be done at home, which in the current climate I’m not saving fast enough to get done in the next 5 years!

Will I regret it? Possibly, but you can’t have it all as the saying goes…
