Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted July 13, 2018 He doesnt do covers, just the material to make them. I bought enough to retrim entire car and one replacement bolster for under £300. Then paying a guy £400 ish to retrim them properly for me. Going in next week so fingers crossed, although he is highly reccomended.

Tom Fenton 1,541 Posted July 19, 2018 I don't understand why folk are so fascinated by what others have paid at a trimmers. Unless you are going to use the same guy, its irrelevant. I'd be more interested in finding someone who is local and can show some examples of their work.

This is very very true, it took me a lot of research and asking around people I knew in the trade to find my trimmer. Google gave me 2 people in a 60 mile radius. Asking around found 6 more, one who I am using is literally walking distance from me at work, was the cheapest and specialises in classic restoring jobs so highly regarded. Without asking around I would never have known he was there and paid 3 times as much Edited July 19, 2018 by Richie-Van-GTi

Just looking for a ball park figure to factor in the overall rebuild cost. There are trimmers local to me as well but living down in the beautiful south puts the price up. farmer 328 1 Cars Posted July 26, 2018 I wouldn't use Hickman Hes a twat of the first order I have been looking at some more serious options in France Google youngtimersclassicfr
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted July 27, 2018 I looked at all the options Farmer including youngtimers, their's worked out around 860 for the covers then probably another 100 to 150ish to have them fitted correctly. I couldn't find any good independant photos of them fitted so no idea how well they are sewn etc and their quintet pattern is apparently quite poor. I had seen Dave's fabric in the flesh in a car with both the original and his in and was happy with the fabric. I found him very pleasant and helpful to deal with. I see he has also made a post about recently having a disagreement with a potential customer, guessing this is you from your post? Obviously don't know the ins and outs of what went on and TBH that's between you and him. I would be interested if you do get something from youngtimers to see what they come out like and if they are a worthwhile option.
farmer 328 1 Cars Posted July 27, 2018 I will send some pictures when I buy them later this year No,it's not actually unless he posted again I had asked him for a sample then got a lot cryptic of replies that you'd need an English dictionary for He had said give him a try if you were a non believer in a nutshell I asked and got the same old 205 drivers replies from the past. Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted September 6, 2018 Finally got mine back from retrimmer, rubbish pictures that I grabbed as I dropped them back off into storage. Very happy with how they turned out, couple of pressure marks where they were in the car on way home that look bad on photos but they arent.
nveeate 78 Posted September 7, 2018 They look really good! I noticed this on one of the cars on eBay.. wtf?! The more you look at them the worse they look!
OzPhil 0 Posted September 7, 2018 A common issue I find with 205 re-trims is the bolsters. They are always very rounded. Picking a trimmer is a minefield too. A friend recently had 2 mini seats done. Went to a bloke who was highly recommended by multiple people. One seat was good, good stitching good tucks and creases the other wasn't. Individually they were ok but sat together they didn't look like a matching pair.
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted September 7, 2018 The rounded look is usually because the covers are too tight. I was lucky that I started with some very good condition bolsters apart from one which was replaced. Also mine are full cloth seats which is a bit more compliant and easier to sew
