Re fitting oil pump sprocket?

Recommended Posts

HelmutGTI

Re fitted the oil pump, drive chain, and  drive sprocket and spacer to the end of the crankshaft today also re fitted  woodruff key (in that order)

And now Im a bit confused?? The sprocket on the crankshaft runs freely not in any ways locks on the crankshaft.

Is it supose to do that? and if so, how will it be able to spinn and rotate the oil pump? feeling really dumb here. What have I missed??

Regards

// Patrik

Yes Peugeot designed the engine so there is no woodruff key on the oil pump drive sprocket , it is driven by the tightness of the crank pulley bolt . If the bolt works loose you lose all oil pressure .Get a flywheel locking tool and torque up the pulley bolt to specified torque .

The later ones do have a woodruff key on the sprocket and crank. (like the DKZ engine)

This might seem a bit crazy, but keep in mind that if the oil pump is driven by the woodruff key alone, you've got rather serious issues, regardless of oil pump pressure. The woodruff key is a hail mary at best. What's worse, driving along blissfully unaware that the crankshaft bolt is loose, or being stranded at the side of the road, without oil pressure, but with (assuming a prudent owner who shut off the engine moments after the light came one), an intact engine?
