Front wing clearance

Recommended Posts

OK a bit like asking how long is a piece of string.......

I've fitted a Satchell subframe and wish bones and have some arch extensions to fit. What I need some help with is how much (if any) I need to trim the wings to ensure enough clearance for the tyres. Front shocks are AST 5300 with 60N/mm springs and the front end doesn't move with me trying to bounce on the wing. If anyone has any pics of anything similar or any advice that would be much appreciated.

Track car I presume with springs like that.  If the photo is with it on its wheels then I'd try it as is.  I run 325lb and use about 1" of compression on the track.

Unfortunately you won't know until you corner weigh it. I run a similar front end (ie 405 driveshafts) with 650lb springs. I have had to cut my guards back to just above the holes and roll the guards, as the tyres were getting sliced. Your springs are relatively soft and I think you'll have issues.

Ok thanks Peter, corner weighting is booked next month. I may have to make some sort of gauge to tell me how much travel I get under load.

A cable round the damper rod/insert does the job, failing that a depth gauge on the groove in your tyre :P

Have you got Wheel spacers on? or is that just how much wider fitting the satchel set up makes it

That interesting, I didn’t realise it gave such a wide track. Out of interest how much is it over standard?
