1.6 gti - trying to repair wiring harness

Recommended Posts

R0B

My wiring harness is in a pretty poor state of repair so one of the winter jobs is to tidy it up and return it to fully working condition. Ive pulled it from the car and gone over it identifying all the wires with the help of the Haynes manual. Unfortunately the connectors are missing off of the end of wire 7A (connects to alternator) and wire 47A (connects to coolant temp gauge sender unit). Does anyone have a picture of what these connectors look like and/or a link to somewhere that sells replacements?

Thanks

Rob

There is a website set up by one of our members with all the connector part numbers but it doesn't seem to be working now - http://www.ryanmoore.comule.com/

The terminals are only available from Peugeot dealers, I think the one you need for the temp gauge sender and the alternator is part number 6542.22. The plastic housings aren't available new so if you don't have those you'll have to post a wanted ad to get some second hand ones, they'll be fine with new terminals fitted.

For reference these are the other terminal part numbers I have:

6542.19 1mm cable female
6542.20 3mm cable female
6542.22 0.6mm cable female

6542.59  1mm cable male
6542.V5 2mm cable male

Unless you want an OE finish though, they can be replaced with generic spade terminals.

You only really need the Peugeot ones for the main loom multiplugs and terminals, plus a few other bits like the tachymetric relay.

YOu can do better than standard and buy heat shrink spade terminals for the engine bay loom to seal the connector to the cable. Coupled with some contralube corrosion proofing paste. Then never have to go back to the job.
