Other injectors for standard Mi16 engine?

My selection of orginal Mi16 injectors are a bit poor, and I rather fancy buying a set of new injectors for it.

 

Anyone tried running the standard management system with different than orginal injectors?

 

Orginals are 214cc/min afaik? So I guess some 220cc ones could do fine.

These for example? But could possibly get into trouble with dead-time differences?

I have the 3 row ECU with lambda so will correct itself a bit on part throttle at least.

Not sure about labor and shipping is quite expensive over here, and I ideally just would like some fresh new ones.

 

They are 214cc aren't they the orginal ones?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Modern injectors have a much better spray pattern compared to the old Mi16 injectors. Labour and parts must be cheap in the UK.

Ok I have done some investiagtion.. for some reason this injector seem to pup-up when searching for a replacement Mi16 one:

200cc/min @ 3 bar.. so a 3.5 bar FPR will give ~216cc/min.
Resistance 14.5 Ohm

All in all I'm most keen on checking out the 0280158107 but the resistance is only 12 Ohms, opposed to 16ohms for the standard ones.

Could be a problem for the ECU injector drivers?

Don't think that one will fit; it's missing the grooves at the top for the mounting clip.

What is it you are trying to achieve by changing the injectors?

 

If you type in the Bosch part number on ebay (0280150762) you will find quite a few companies that will sell you a refurbished set of Mi16 injectors and deliver them worldwide for a reasonable cost.

I actually found the 0280158013 on a black friday sale now, brand new at about 17£ each genuine Bosch ones.

So will give them a try at that price level. Buying some pigtail connectors on eBay. Ok as the orginal Mi16 loom connectors would need to be changed anyway.

I've been running without retaining clips for quite some time one other engines. Are they really that important as long as the rail is strong enough and bolted down properly?

Sure, as long as it's clamped down somehow. I'm not running them with an XU10 rail.

Ok, I'm using a T16 rail on this one, or might change it for a Gti6 rail due to possibly a bit neater hose layout with the GTi6 one.

 

Will see when they arrive, maybe they even are too short... 

Running without on the 405 T16 too as the ID1000 injectors needed a spacer which did not have any groove machined into it anyway.

I would not trust a $17 injector to be genuine!

 

Not sure about UK labour and shipping being cheap, rather Scandinavian being drastically higher, getting a set of injectors serviced would cost less than one new injector  (circa £60 posted here)

 

you wont gain anything over a refurbished injector without a remap.

Are you sure that a better spray pattern and/or atomization from a more modern injector will give zero gains over a refurbished standard one? 

I would not be 100% sure of it.

 

I agree it was very cheap, so I'm curious to see if they are genuine or not.

If you are able to run sequential injection the XU10J4RS ones would be a good (and affordable) option as well. They're a twin nozzle type, so less wall wetting if aimed correctly.

I'm running standard Mi16 3row Motronic. I'm fed up with mapping 3rd party managements. It takes much of the joy away I feel. :)

On the clips front, you might want to be just a little cautious. I found on my Jenvey setup that one of the clips was not seated correctly with the consequence that I had a fuel leak from that injector. ( character building on a nice hot manifold. Luckily I found it promptly) It may be that on an o.e rail, then once clamped in place the height of the pillar on the rail is such that the injector seal into the rail is fully home, but in my example, it is the clip that ensures the seal  is correctly inserted into the rail. I imagine that Bosch and Peugeot ( or whoever designed the fuel rail) will have included  the clip arrangement to ensure that the injector is correctly seated even if the fuel rail pillar height is not exactly correct. Looking at the injector (0280158013) I am not sure I can see a groove for the clip

A fuel leak is a bad thing obviously but a hot manifold wont ignite petrol (unlike oil or even brake fluid which will auto-ignite from the heat alone) without a spark -

True. Nevertheless, fuel being sprayed over a hot engine from a leaking injector ‘o’ ring for the sake of a clip is  still a powerful    Inducement to change ones underwear. Good video clip by the way.

Denso 2W93AA. 212cc and used a lot on Ford Era JLR stuff.

I know someone using these on an 8v and it runs much smoother and cleaner.
