Tu5 Or Xu10

I'm toying with the idea of changing my 8v turbo lump for a 16v either xu10 j4rs turbo or a tu5 jp4 turbo.

I really like the idea of a 1.6 turbo lump to be different and I've seen that they are capable of producing some big power.

Is there an advantage having the xu10 over the tu5.

I understand that it's not easy and forged items and different management and so on are need to make a real powerful engine I'm just stuck on which engine to start with.

2.2 xu based engine on bodies, mid 200's is relatively straightforward and very usable.

without any class restrictions theres no reason to stay with a tu block, theres very little in it weight wise when you consider any decent tu build will need a BE conversion, the block itself is a bit of a lump.

Obvious question is if you want to stick with forced induction and you're prepared to spend some money, why change the engine?

Yes the 16v options no doubt have more potential, but as I understand the basic 8v turbo engine with aftermarket management and bolt on bits (turbo, manifold etc) will see well over 250hp judging from the Dutch guys... and do you really need more than that in a 900kg FWD hatch?

I've seen projects with all 3 engines (xu10j2te, xu10j4rs and tu5jp4 (in 206) ) resulting in 300+.

If you start from scratch, the xu10j4rs is the most capable. (read: needs least boost to get there)

The tu5jp4 will have it's own challenges. like fitting a BE box to it.I think the effort and price tag in the end will be similar to the xu10j4rs.

If your current engine is in good shape, it might be the cheapest option to tune that one? Won't be for free, but likely cheaper than the other 2 engines.

Nothing to serious, gti6 brakes, omp cage, bilstien b8.

I was planning on taking the car off the road in the next few weeks as the turbo is shot on my current engine and get it in the garage for a full bare shell rebuild.

I understand that power is nothing with out the handling and stopping power.
