changingman 7 1 Cars Posted July 4, 2017 And this is the supposed list of faults that i paid a"reputable" peugeot specialist to find whilst doing an all over check as it needs to be safe for track work.
changingman 7 1 Cars Posted July 4, 2017 (edited) Now I won't name names , but I was suspicious. And rightly so as I bought it home , put it on some ramps and got under it myself. I an NOT an experienced mechanic whatsoever and had to ask a lot of questions which you fine people supplied answers to, so I'm very great full for that!! Anyway , the head gasket has NOT gone and the rear main oils seals have also NOT gone, every single sump bolt was finger tight with the exception of one that was easily 5 mm short of even being done up finger tight and it had a gasket on an alloy sump. I took the sump off, cleaned it up and cut the air con brackets off so the sump actually fitted and put it back on with some RTV. A few days later a took it to Bedford auto drome and spanked it for a wee while. NO overheating and NO oil leaks.!! I have rectified the rev counter and the new speedo cable , dual drive and pin will.be here In a day or two then it's just oil.temp and pressure gauges for me to sort out. The " specialists" wanted in excess of £2500 to.do the engine work alone, which I have done myself barring the oil sensors for £140 including buying torque wrench, and a dremmel . changingman 7 1 Cars Posted July 4, 2017 Ignore the stop light, it's up on ramps !!
Tom Fenton 1,558 Posted July 4, 2017 Great start buddy! And it will make it much easier to follow what's going on. However, ramps won't make any difference to the stop light so still some fault finding to do!
changingman 7 1 Cars Posted July 4, 2017 I've tidied up the electrics a little bit as they were pretty much all over the place like a bowl of spaghetti but there's still more to do. I'll keep posting stuff as I do it as I'm keeping this one (number 8) and I want it all working as it should. Thanks for all the help so far guys. Oh and for what it's worth I've had a grovelling apology from the "specialists" in question .

However, ramps won't make any difference to the stop light so still some fault finding to do! Must be yet another loose wire as it comes in and goes of when it's flat haha. That is the least of my problems though and ill get round to it eventually! !

changingman 7 1 Cars Posted July 17, 2017 May have to go down the digital speedo route after all because we put the housing in today and it all span when it was put back together , but still no speedo. Just got to take clocks off and see of cable actually turns. If it doesn't then can anyone recommend a good digital dash that's not too involved to get wires up? Cheers Liam
pugdamo 111 2 Cars Posted July 17, 2017 What happens when you pull the cable out at the speedo drive end and spin it? Does the panel move at all?
welshpug 1,673 Posted July 17, 2017 you're over complicating things! most likely not clipped into the back of the Speedo head firmly.
changingman 7 1 Cars Posted July 17, 2017 What happens when you pull the cable out at the speedo drive end and spin it? Does the panel move at all? didn't try that,we'll get the cluster of tomorrow and see if the cable spins and take it from there!! you're over complicating things! most likely not clipped into the back of the Speedo head firmly. Well I did say that but it was me that pushed it on and I was sure it was on. Do you need to.be quite brutal with it then???? Also do you know if 309 driveshafts are the same as 205 in circumference as we replaced the seals with new ones and they leak . The chap who sold it too me said the wishbones and driveshafts were off of a 309, but I don't know! !!
welshpug 1,673 Posted July 17, 2017 yep they are the same other than overall length, it's all too easy to push the seals in too far, the earlier type need to stand proud by a few mm. the cable clips on, it looks fully seated at the box end, so as long as you have both gears installed in there and on the diff correctly you should see the top end of the cable turn, if not then the Speedo drive is faulty.
