The Elusive 426!

Good evening, I'm trying to find wire 426 on a gti6 ecu but the chap told me it was written on the wires and it's not!!!

So how do I identify which wire is the elusive 426????

You need to trace it back from the ecu plug think it's a red wire

Pin 42 on ECU is tacho output.

30hz at engine idle

100hz at 3000 rpm

What chap, LOL

 

Wire numbers are rarely there and depending on the loom and whats been cut out/messed around with who knows, It will be a red wire thou

There are 4 red ones at the ecu end

 

I've pulled the plug out of the ecu , do I take it that pin one is top left then pin two pin three and so on???

......and return I have.

 

Triumphant in the fact that the elusive 426 has been found.

I had to take the ecu out , take the plug out and strip all the outer cable covers, but they are numbered and I have found it.

 

Cup of coffee now and I might leave the electrics till tomorrow as I'm feeling mighty impressed with myself and I might go and blow something up if I carry on hahaha! !!

Gotta love peugeots!!!

Passenger lifts etc the numbers are every 25mm-you have to wonder why Peugeot didn't do that

It's got a lot easier to print on wires since 205s and even 306s were built!

 

Even cheap 100M rolls of ethernet twisted pair cables have the remaining length printed on them every metre these days, that would have been unfeasibly expensive to do until relatively recently.

It's got a lot easier to print on wires since 205s and even 306s were built!

Seriously though I'm getting a tad pissed off.

I've connected 12 v directly from battery.

Connected earth directly to the chassis and screwed it down.

Connected the green wire straight into wire 112 in the back of the instrument cluster.

Connected blue and yellow wire to wire 426 and I still have no rev counter.

 

I have tried all but 12v and earth the other way round just in case , but still nothing. .

And I thought this was gonna be straight forward!

Ar you've been spooxed,

But worth checking that the rev counter has not been played around with, this way is the best as it's free and instant as those adaptors can take a while to spring into life

Well spotted mate, I don't think the Rev counter has ever been out as everything was intact with all the plastics and no missing screws! !!

Having said that there were two yellow wires going into a female connector behind the instrument cluster that weren't attached to anything and I can't see anywhere for it to go! !

I take it that the wiring diagram should have provided results then hahaha!!!!!

Nice one thanks, that's one less wire I need to worry about then.

Maybe my instrument cluster is knackered as I've got all the wires in the right place to the best of my knowledge!

don't know why you've took the clocks out. 112 should be in the engine bay, and 426 too.

 

You should be wired out ecu (426) Into adapter (blue/yellow)

Out adapter (green) into Rev counter (112)

With 12v onto adapter.

 

You've defineately went onto the correct side of 426,? That you should have cut (rather than spliced into)

 

I'd fit a wee inline fuse on the supply if you've connected straight on to battery btw.

 

I've never heard of any electronic components taking a wee while to get going.

 

Can you measure the output voltage of the adapter with the car running? and see if it changes when you rev it?

I had to take the clocks out to fit new speedo cable! !

 

The 12v from the battery is just temporary so I knew it was 100% reliable.

 

I went into 426 about four inches past the big black plug that goes into the ecu, BUT, maybe I should have just cut it like you say as maybe the feed is still getting directed somewhere else , I can rectify that in 30 seconds

 

I will try and measure the voltage later, I take it that it's from the green wire? ?

Yeah, cos 426 could be sitting earthed where the round plug used to be.

 

I'm not sure what voltage you can expect but suspect it would fluctuate when you rev etc,

 

Only thing is 112 used to connect to the neg of the coil (iirc) and I'm not sure how it actually works electrically.

 

Yeah green wire.

Success, thanks guys! !!!

I've cut 426 now and I'll go back later and tidy everything up , just needed it to work first! !

Yes indeed it is, it comes on as soon as the ignition is on and the red light on the water temperature too , but goes off once you start driving, just one more of the gauges that I've got to sort out, this thing although fast , was put together by an idiot, and luckily I have the determination to get it sorted out one way or a another !!!!!!

And it might be worth mentioning that the front of the car is up on ramps so I can actually get underneath it and do what needs to be done!!!

 

Once the speedo drive arrives and is in then it's just the oil sensors to remedy as the oil temperature goes from frozen to boiling at will haha! !

You know you need a big rubber pin to hold the speedo cable in the speedo drive housing?

I'm pretty sure the warning lights should all come on at ignition and go off when it starts.

The oil temperature/sender wire must be just flapping about and hitting earth (sending the gauge to full)...... easy job if you can identify the wire, have a sender fitted, and can get access to it :D
