What To Do With Faded Trims?!?

Alright guys.. i want to fully get my trims back to near new condition!

My gti is a ph1.5 so the trims are supossed to be grey i believe?? But some of them are almost white they are that faded! I have bought some autobright restore 2 grey dye .. and done two of the trims but they look too greyish blue? :/ not that dark grey they should be..

 

So..my questions are...

Can i paint them with normal grey paint??

Or could i paint them black like a ph2 ??!

I use wurth trim dye. 2 coats perfect still after 6 weeks. I use gloss dash wipes to freshen them up and the dye remains perfect

 

Mine should be ph1 grey but decided on black as it covered them a lot better

I used paint colour RAL7021, which near identical to the colour of my rear interior plastics.

 

Which looks like this colour (on my phone)

Mind you'll need plastic primer if painting them.

So i can just find a matching grey paint and paint them instead of this dye ??

 

I just want them to look as original as they can for my restoration project.

Get a paint shop to do it, there's a bit of skill involved.

 

Primed, texturised, and painted with a paint with a matting agent added.

All I can say is £21 for dye and it worked for me. Longevity? Paint will be better if done right. Badly painted will look awful so it comes down to cost and potential future maintenance.

Here's mines painted in RAL7021. Was done in late 2013 early 2014 iirc. None of it has flaked or peeled, however i'm careful with it when washing it etc.

Since you've already got the grey Autobrite why not buy some black Autobrite and try mixing them together until you get a shade you are happy with?

It's not black, it's kind grey with a hint of blue to my eyes.

 

Same colour as unbleached interior back panels, and probably slightly darker than the back of an arch.

Make sure you wet the sponge and really really scrub your plastics before applying it

Quick update.. the Wurth trim restorer is spot on!!

The grey is a nice dark grey and looks lovely once dry! All my trims look brand new!

To keep them fresh I use simoniz gloss dash wipes on them. I don't wash mine as it doesn't get used in the rain so not sure how they will cope with the weather
