Telf 224 2 Cars Posted June 9, 2017 (edited) I've been offered a pair of original peugeot standard wings for my ongoing refurb. Has anybody ever modified them to fit on a GTI successfully? Also I noticed the repeater holes are nearer the door edge of the wing than on my presently fitted ones-anybody know why? Edited June 9, 2017 by Telf
welshpug 1,648 Posted June 9, 2017 indicator position is just an age thing, they moved around 1990 IIRC. otherwise yes I believe the profile of the wing is the same but cut away higher.
Telf 224 2 Cars Posted June 9, 2017 ok thanks. Mines an 89 so I guess if I fit these wings it wont be correct. The bodyshop seem keen to repair my old set rather than modify the new ones.... What to do... what to do!!
welshpug 1,648 Posted June 9, 2017 i'd keep the gti wings if they arent rotten.

steve@cornwall 100 Posted June 9, 2017 There's always the chance that drilling and cutting the wings will leave them needing remedial work too.
Telf 224 2 Cars Posted June 9, 2017 Thanks guys. Looks like keep the old ones. I think the main drama is the workshop is concerned that once the car turns up at the local retro show people will wonder why a fresh sprayed car isn't 100% dink free. I have told them that's not really the aim and I mainly want it looking fresh not concourse!
Telf 224 2 Cars Posted June 9, 2017 I actually personally don't mind that it's not 100% perfect on every panel but it seems to really bother the workshop

You never know these cars might be worth something one day haha

Telf 224 2 Cars Posted June 10, 2017 not very far! the back end (underbody) as far as the front of the fuel tank is now complete welding wise. Its due to be spun round and the front done, hoping to see it by October .... maybe!
Gaz205 50 Posted June 10, 2017 I bet it's killing you waiting, I'm guessing yours is one of many? I would take reassurance from them wanting to do it right and leave it with them to decide about the wings. With regard to getting all the dents out, unless they say it'll take 3 months less and half the price to not get it perfect then again I would leave it with them. If they manage to get that perfect finish and keep your original panels then they are very good indeed.
