Hi , just wondered what the difference is between a gti6 engine and an s16 engine , apart from the weight and power difference.

Cheers

Liam

only common parts are block and crank, and even then there are differences.

weight difference is not great, both are twin cam iron block xu10 engines.

S16 easy to tune to 200bhp, GTi6 pain in the arse, Std form the 6 is better as it's a later engine

Thanks gents , so I have a gti6 head on an s16 block and I just wondered that if it were to go pop whilst being thrashed on track , as s16 lumps are pretty scare, i could put it all back together using a gti6 block using the diesel crank that's in the s16 block??

I intend to get very hands on with this pug as it's number 8 and I really should do stuff myself.

not likely it will go pop as it sounds like all the s16 weaknesses have been removed, depends which rods and pistons were used.

yes you vould use a gti6 engine for your diesel crank.

I know it's got oversized s16 pistons and it's 2.1ltr.

It's been sat in my drive wheel and battery less for five weeks since I've owned it but I put them all back on on Monday evening and literally as soon as I turned the key with zero throttle it jumped into life without even one turn and I hadn't even got my hand off the key.

I think it will be a good car once I get the gauges and oil leak sorted this weekend.

And what good does using a diesel crank do , make it more torquey? ?

bigger capacity from longer stroke.

I love the S16 (XU10J4) donk. I'd take one to a GTi6 any day.

The good thing about an XU10J4 is that the piston sits exactly 1mm down the bore. Thus adding an 88mm crank brings the piston up flush with the deck. Thus you get a capacity increase, increased CR and decreased squish height. All good things.

So s16 block, diesel crank, Kent cams and a gti6 head is a pretty potent combination

You could do that but I'd probably use XU9J4/XU10J4 head and reground cams and spend the other $500'somewhere else.

Well sort of Welsh, I am just thinking for the future and having spares as I intend to make this my last track car and one of the last cars I ever buy, I've had 48 to date and that's almost one a year , I was 49 a few weeks ago! !!!!
