MadeinWigan 0 Posted May 4, 2017 I've got a 205 gtx and want replace the subframe. Will pretty much any non GTi one do? Thanks
welshpug 1,646 Posted May 4, 2017 with the same engine and gearbox type, i.e TU and MA, yes. what's wrong with yours?
MadeinWigan 0 Posted May 4, 2017 Ah right, thanks. The car has lived by the sea so any exposed metal underneath is crusty. The bodywork is great but the suspension isn't. Maybe a good going over with a wire wheel will do the job but I wanted to be prepared in case it is worse than it looks.
allye 530 3 Cars Posted May 4, 2017 It's not normal for the sub frames to rot away as they are fairly chunky metal. I'd be taking it off for inspection before getti another. Having said that, base model subframes are worth next to nothing, I've personally thrown away a few so you could get one and have it powder coated ready to swap out in one go. MadeinWigan 0 Posted May 4, 2017 That's my thinking, the car has only done 48k miles so it would be nice to pretty up a bit.

welshpug 1,646 Posted May 4, 2017 looks fine tbh, they all go a bit rusty but they're reasonably well treated and pretty chunky things, I've never seen one rot through.
toolie72 67 1 Cars Posted May 4, 2017 My tip for preservation is to throw gearbox oil all over it Or can I just not get the bloody thing to stop leaking agh
