Camshaft And Crankshaft Position Sensors

Evening,

Just about to build the last part of my loom to connect my Emerald K6 to engine sensors and injectors, coils etc and I have a dumb question. Both cam and crank sensors are JPT 3 pin affairs. I had assumed that they were Hall effect and hence need a supply on pin one, but having looked on the relevant wiring diagrams, the crank sensor looks like it is inductive. Any advice very welcome

yeah just plug in the standard crank sensor, no idea on the cam sensor, most don't bother with them and run wasted spark.

Sorry. I have not understood you. If the sensor is Hall effect, it needs a power supply from the ecu. No problem, but I need to know that. If it is inductive, then no supply needed but that leaves me unsure as to what each of the three pins is for

Thank you .Solutuon for both sensors. The K6 supplies a stabilised 8v for the cam and crank sensors . There should be no need for any line resistor . To my shame I had forgotten that I had read that thread at some point in the past and even replied to it . A definite senior moment

Haha. I know how you feel. The 100Ω resistor was used on Siemens HKZ101 sensors for current limiting, not voltage reducing. It's just what you did back in the late '80's - early '90's. I just carried over the idea, but it's unnecessary on XU10J4/RS sensors.

Sensor update. My crank sensor is part number 1920W9 It is inductive and is the one fitted to the XU10J4RS . Checked out the resistance between pins 1 and 2 and read 423ohms, which is about right. It is magnetic . Multimeter across pins 1 and 2 produce a pulse of around 0.2 v when I wave a piece or iron near it .

Cam sensor is a hall sensor , which is why I assume it cost quite a bit more than the crank sensor. Now I understand your post Welshpug.
