Well I paid £50 for a 1.9 engine and £60for a gearbox. Depends on its mileage,it's condition, if your planning on stripping it etc

I don't think it would be unreasonable to pay £250, I'd pay that for it if you know it's all decent.

Generally its going to need a rebuild if untouched, theyre 30+ yr old now.

 

That will set you back £££.

The specific engine fitted to your own car when new? or an engine from another 205 1.9 GTi?

 

For my mind... it's a question of what a new 8v engine would cost in today's money so in this respect, an engine and box in serviceable condition is worth a lot more than a few hundred pounds.
