Anthony 1,003 Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) Obvious question is what was the reg number and were there any other identifying features? Sorry to hear about the theft though and fingers crossed that you get it back undamaged. Edit - sorry, spotted the reg number in the tag field - H431HRU. Daviewonder 533 3 Cars Posted April 4, 2017 Sorry to hear this. This is just gonna start happening more and more now.
AlexRS2782 136 1 Cars Posted April 4, 2017 Not good news I'll keep an eye out around my way (Surrey / Hants border) just incase. As above, I have a feeling this could soon be a sign of things to come since the prices of 205's started going the way of the same era classics like the Ford RS, etc
fatstig1 0 Posted April 4, 2017 Thanks for the concern, agree that this is a sign of things ahead, unfortunately, still hoping it may be an isolated event. Best wishes John.
dobboy 231 2 Cars Posted April 5, 2017 Remember there was three stolen within a few weeks, within a 40 mile radius of each other last year or the year before. There's a little tracker the size of a 50p you can get for £25, I'd be fitting one if I was local to a stolen one and worried.
changingman 7 1 Cars Posted April 5, 2017 Hope it turns up.
Leslie green 110 Posted April 5, 2017 Sorry to hear that , a steering wheel lock is a good deterrent if you have to leave it on the street at night as these cars like many older ones are far too easy stolen never to be seen again. I would guess they are stolen for parts now due to the high demand for good Gti bits .
camgti 56 Posted April 5, 2017 Excuse my ignorance. But how are people stealing them? Jump starting them with the ignition wires? Back of a tilt truck?

There's a little tracker the size of a 50p you can get for £25, I'd be fitting one if I was local to a stolen one and worried. It's quite easy for someone else to put one of these^ trackers on your car when you are in at Tesco or whatever, and monitor you for a few days, then pick up the car at a more convenient spot for them..... once they know your habits. I know someone who knows someone who kept seeing the same Landrover/Jeep at hotels/B&B/pub car parks when touring the north of Scotland in some fancy car, he then seen them again 300miles south in his home town and tried to confront them, but they shot off.... not sure how the story ended, but IIRC tracking was involved rather than following them. jackherer 543 Posted April 6, 2017 How can a 50p size tracker have enough electrical power stored to determine its location via GPS and send that data to someone via GSM? Even if it had a mobile phone size battery it isn't going to keep that up for very long without some method to recharge it, unless I'm missing something? dobboy 231 2 Cars Posted April 6, 2017 You're right Jack..... another user has to be in the vicinity to send the signal. ( I think!) But i'm sure I've read up and the battery life was good, 12 months or so. https://www.thetrackr.com/bravo/?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=Bravo_Search_GeneralKeywords_cpc&utm_campaign=Bravo_Search_GeneralKeywords
cRaig 273 1 Cars Posted April 6, 2017 (edited) I've got a GPS tracker in mine, it's has a pay as you go sim card in it, and a small inline 5v transformer feeding off a constant live from the car battery. Can log in to a weblink and see it's position, or you can set up a geofence and it alerts you if it goes outside of defined coordinates. It's a little bigger than a box of tictacs, so easy to hide in a 205. I can look out the link if anyone is interested? Leet205 48 Posted April 6, 2017 I think we should all invest in a decent tracker. Please share Craig!
cRaig 273 1 Cars Posted April 6, 2017 This is very similar to what I fitted (same brand, but the models have changed a little. There may be cheaper options, this was the first I found on ebay, it can probabaly be found much cheaper if you are happy to wait for it to come from China etc.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-GPS-Tracker-Magnetic-Car-Vehicle-Personal-Tracking-Device-102-NANO-TK102-/111201679112?hash=item19e422f708:g:nM4AAOSw9GhYej6A Plus a hardwired charger, so there are no issues with it going flat. (obviously it will add drain to the car battery, so might be better suited to a car used fairly regularly, or one on a trickle charger etc. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/102-NANO-GPS-TRACKER-HARD-WIRE-CHARGER-KIT-VEHICLE-BATTERY-ADAPTER-TK102-FOR-CAR-/121365149088?hash=item1c41ed35a0:g:YAIAAOSw65FXwBUn I put a free giffgaff sim in mine, as it can be topped up/accssed via their website, rather than having to put the sim back in a phone to top it up/keep it active. This, coupled with the permanent charging meant that the gps could be hidden somewhere which didnt require as regular access. Even comes with a magnetic base, so can be stuck to the inside of a panel/bodywork etc. I'd certainly recommend one guys!
Mikey S 29 1 Cars Posted April 6, 2017 Very sad world we live in today and i can only see that it will get worse as the higher prices go. Craig, thank you for the links. That tracker actually now comes with a 2g simcard, so for 50 quid at least it will give you piece of mind. My interior is out of the 205 now so I may well order one and get it fitted To the OP, please let us know how it goes in the search for your car, I've everything crossed that it turns up. yorkshirekowboy 19 1 Cars Posted April 6, 2017 Where would be the best source of power to power the 5v adapter without going straight to the battery? Cig socket? I'm sure they aren't switched live.
Mikey S 29 1 Cars Posted April 7, 2017 If i decide to get one, and i probably will, i will more than likely tap into a permanent live at the rear of the fusebox.
dobboy 231 2 Cars Posted April 7, 2017 If i decide to get one, and i probably will, i will more than likely tap into a permanent live at the rear of the fusebox. If you do that, mind you'll need to add an in-line fuse (2A?) near the fusebox (from the swift look i had at the link), especially if the you intend to hide the PSU with the device near the rear of the car.
