Oversized Door Pins

I have searched and can't find the answer...

What size drill piece and subsequent size door pins (hammer in version) tends to be the best tried and tested ?

Standard ones are 7mm on earlier cars. I drilled mine out to 8mm as the holes were worn and used generic 8mm roll pins. Door is perfect now with no sagging/droop

Still need to find these hinge pins... Struggling on the eBay front to find roll pins at 8mm other than for a vw transporter, can anyone suggest a seller?

I used m6 cap head bolts with nylock nuts

I used thin washers "chapped" in to take up vertical play

I can tighten them up to remove play (once a year before mot lol)

Good idea! I've seen the spring pins, the guy doing my car said they should work failing that he likes your idea

Just get a normal pin and sheath it with a coke can or something

The problem drilling them to 8mm is access there won't be room for a normal drill that's why you need a small right angle one as mentioned above ,you can get m8 roll pins on ebay up to 70mm long eg ebay number 232244307444

They are the ones I have seen, thanks. He says he has the equipment to drill it so we are giving this a go.

Before drilling the holes out I would order the new pins and wait for them to arrive , check the diameter of them with a micrometer and drill the holes a little smaller so they are a good tight fit .

Hmmm could a tapped hole with a grub screw taking up the play do the same thing-it would at least take some slack up and be easier to drill, through the side

My mot man said anything would do as long as doors didn't drop when he checked them

you need a new MOT tester I think

 

never seen anyone check door hinges on a test.

 

grub screws wont work as the pin needs to turn in the worn section.
