Recommended Posts

Hello all I have a mi16 1.9 head and a mi16 2.0 engine was wondering does the head fit straight to the 2.0 block with no complications and/or anything I require to do? Many thanks

You need a diesel head bolt for the one over the water pump. You may have to turn down the head.

yes, IIRC the casting under the rear corner bolt above the water pump is taller as the 1.9 block is cast differently, so the 16v engine doesn't need the tall spacer that the 8v XU runs here.

the iron block threads are all identical and all spacers and bolt counterbores are the same depth.

DCC may still have some XUD bolts spare, I recall he bought a set when he changed the gasket on a 2.2 hybrid engine he had a few years back.

I've got a single XUD headbolt you can have if you pay the postage, it's a genuine Pug one in a bag.

Sorry to highjack your thread Sam.

I'm using the RS iron block & 1.9 Mi head. The later block has M11 headbolts the same pitch but shorter, so can I use these without the 1.9 spacers?

Are you sure Jeff? I think you'll find RS have M12x1.5 bolts like the other iron blocks.

The RS bolts have an 11mm shank & 12mm thread so does that make them M12 then? They are 110mm long measured from under the head to tip.

Definitely M12.

Thanks guys. So all the other head bolts bar the one at the water pump use the 1.9 bolts instead of the 2.0 correct?

No, use all XU10J4/R/RS bolts except for one, which must be XUD.

Can one not just use all XUD bolts (with turned down head diameter?).

Mi16 head bolt spacers apart from on 1 where one uses XU10J4 washer? Or do I remember very wrong?

I think I used all XUD bolts on my 2.3 iron block with 1.9 Mi16 head.

Easiest is to use 16v XU10 bolts (all the same) plus one XUD7/9 with the head turned down, 16v XU10 is 110mm long, XUD is 150mm.

I dont think there is 40mm extra depth in the XU10 block to take an uncut XUD bolt, you'd also need to turn down 10 bolts not 1.

If you use XU10J4 bolts you don't need XU9J4 spacers, just the washers.

Ok, this is apparently what I did.. ouch 10 years ago I wrote this. No wonder I had forgotten the details :)

I just used all 10 of the XU10J2 8v headbolts, turned the heads down approx 1-2mm (don't remember exactly hos much) in diameter in a lathe.
Used 1.9 Mi16 headbolt-washers/spacers on 9 bolts, on the one above waterpump I just used a S16 headbolt washer which is just a few mm thick.

That's it.

You can also use 9 S16 headbolts with S16 washers, and the 10'th bolt over waterpump still need to be a XU10 8v bolt with turned down head and S16 headbolt washer.
