88Mm Pistons Oe Pistons

Recommended Posts

205freak

Hello, i´ve search the entire forum and saw a few builds or trying to build 2.2-2.3 engines to achieve those figures but most of members normally go custom, i wonder if anyone ever measured and tried OE pistons from Peugeot, probably it wont be usefull and worth checking i guess!!!

Let me leave you with a set thats on ebay, then again you probably could sort that out in uk aswell!!!

I can't imagine why you would want to use those pistons, they would be incredibly heavy, no valve cutouts, very tall.

You can use the pistons for Honda K24 block with K20 head.

I didn't even need to modify the valve cut-outs on them.

You get them in different sizes, I bought 87mm ones for the 2.2 litre T16 engine.

I believe this actually means you can use all kind of pistons for the honda K20 engine and have valve cut-outs that more or less is compatible with the Peugeot 2.0 16v heads.

These were the ones I bought and used:

They come in a variety of dish/dome and bore configurations starting at 87mm bore and up to even 89.5mm. But as said 88mm is probably on the limit.

Although I've not experienced any problems with the block itself on my 2.3 engine that uses 88mm bore.

Is the OE conrod with pin straight fit on these honda pistons ?

not likely with a 30mm crown height, you can use long rods though which helps.

Even with a 92mm stroke I have 158mm rods with Omega pistons.

As I see it, either one can buy off the shelf pistons and custom rods.

Or custom pistons and use stock or off the shelf rods.

It's next to impossible to find both an off the shelf piston and a off the shelf/factory rod that will mate to a piston not made for the car.

So you at least have to customize at least one of them. Custom rods are easier to spec up than pistons though, at least in my head :)

Did you measure how well the Honda pistons fit?

Was the valve inclination the same on both engines?

Not easy to determine really in my case, as the pistons has a big dish, hence valve pockets are quite tiny anyway and not very easy to get an indication for whether domed pistons would have the right angle when it comes to valve cut-outs in such a setup.

I wouldn't get hung up on the angle. It's going to be fairly close regardless. Just make sure you get the clearance correct, as a touch is a touch no matter how it happens.
