Insurance Renewal Fee

Recommended Posts

steve@cornwall

Just had my insurance renewal through, very good at £112.16 including premium tax.

But added to this is a renewal fee for £50 !!!

Anyone else get this added to their premium? Seems hefty. And does this mean that it's cheaper to start a new policy?

Lancaster have just tried similar with me. As you say, cheaper to start a new policy despite the fact that it is less work for them to renew. I suspect a phone call will quickly see the fee waivered to retain your business...

£50 that's ridiculous. Definitely argue that one.

Ive just renewed both my cars, each company charged a £10 arrangement fee. £50 deserves a phone call...

Go compare gives best price of £107 fully comp, 3000 miles per year, ungaraged with a £50 excess, my excess is £150. But if they drop the renewal fee I'll renew. They have my main car policy too, so a little more incentive to be competitive I hope.

Phone up and give them a motivational speech. I'm sure acthreat to go elsewhere will see it scotched. I'd also try for a little extra off for your trouble.

One phone call and the policy became £112 per year, fully comp with no limits on mileage. Renewed and happy.

Now to tackle hem on the 500s insurance renewal ;-)

I'll look it up later. But is through the same broker i was with when the tree hit my fiat. They worked quickly and liased with my gap insurers and i was back in a new car in about 4 weeks including delivery of new car to chosen spec.

That's good to know that they're good in the event of a claim Steve, as that's who I'm with now (through a broker).

They came in at a little over half(!) the renewal quote from Lancaster despite higher mileage limit and lower excess.

PS. That does sound like a very good quote if that's unlimited mileage - is that as a regular policy utilising NCB or as a classic. I'm paying a little less than that as a classic, but with a 5k mileage limit.

Second car, no ncd and no limited mileage clause on schedule, although this could have been an oversight.Had both cars with them (full ncd on main car) for about 3 years now.

Which car is it on Steve? And is it actually a classic policy (doesn't sound like it if no mileage limit)? I might have to give these peeps a try in a few months.

88 GTi 1.6 no mods. Insurance value raised to 3k. I was quoted on 3000 miles a year, but there's no mileage limit endorsement on the schedule or certificate.

I pay around 270 per year on my 1.2 Fiat 500 fully comp with them, ungaraged. Max (11 years ncd) as this was protected at time of tree incident.

Low risk postcode and I'm now the wrong side of 50!

I only pay about £200 on my V70 T5 with Direct Line, which includes business mileage, but then that is with a 5k limit. I guess if I increased that up to 10k or even unlimited it would be closer or more than what you are paying on the Fiat. I'll need to move away from DL in July as the Volvo will be replaced by my Saab and that will have a few minor modifications, so it'll be a return to a more specialist insurer for me.
