Best Gearbox For My 205Cti Mi16

I've been told a 306td box would be good. Would this be any good as just can't find a be3 mi16 box

It'll fit but it'll be awful to drive. For a standard Mi16 you want either a 1.6 205 GTI box or an Mi16 box. If you can't find either you'll need to change the final drive in something else to end up with sensible ratios - http://205gti.com/techgearboxUK.htm

Is it a 1.9 cti? As iirc they have they have a 3.91 FD but not sure on ratios. For a fast road car I would go with the 1.6 box on an mi. As above, the diesel box would be awful.

Depends on the year of the CTi, early ones had the GTi box, later ones swapped to the more of 405 SRi type, any Derv box on a Petrol car would be allfull unless pushing 300bhp plus

If it has the 3.94 cwp and 1.6 GTi ratios (ie that fitted to DFZ engines) it's a great box and effectively near identical an Mi16 box.

 

eg 5th gear

3.94 x 0.865 = 3.41

4.43 x 0.76 = 3.37

 

Just do your homework before junking it.
