Recommended Posts

Hi, my tailgate is rusty. I have a replacement but was wondering how easy it is to get to the wiring harness to remove then re-route into the new tailgate? Anyone done it and has advice? thanks

from memory the wiring all plugs in behind the Left hand rear light cluster, open the plug housings up and pull the terminals out and they'll come out of the hole in the bodywork, take a picture on your phone so you remember the order.

right hand side is just the washer jet hose iirc.

WP is correct these may help, there are 4 holes that are useful for access, however all the connections can be got at through the lower holes

You'll need access to the left hand boot area, if you gently pull on the cables you'll feel which ones need disconnecting

Wiring aside, there's a difference in the bolts holes at the hinge between Ph1/1.5 and Ph2 tailgates so check that before you go to fit and find yourself stumped! If you have the hinges with a single bolt that goes through the middle, you can drill them out to the 2 hole arrangement and should be able to see pressings in the hinge for that.
